Respite Now directors have undertaken Cultural Competence training and our staff are progressively being trained in aboriginal cultural competence to ensure we are suitable aware of the requirements when working with an aboriginal client or team member. This may be seen as tokenism, however we have pursued numerous channels and it is through talking to aboriginal people including elders that have made us realise just how little we know.
We as a team are open to continually being taught the ways in which we can more deeply honour our First Nation peoples as to date, as a country, we have done so little.
The aboriginal culture is incredibly rich and rewarding to learn about and we look forward to the continuing opportunity we have to learn and appreciate more.
